Last week, Jake Mangum had the opportunity to attend the Texas Archeological Society Annual Meeting, which was held here in Denton, at UNT’s Gateway Center.
As someone who spends much of his time working with digital collections and historical materials, it was it was a change of pace to hear from archaeologists, researchers, and volunteers who are uncovering and preserving Texas history in a very different way. The presentations and conversations highlighted how much work goes into documenting the people, places, and stories that help us better understand our past.
While the work may take different forms, we all have a common goal: making sure future generations can learn from and connect with Texas history.
Mangum had the chance to share more about The Portal to Texas History and learn about collections and research that could benefit from digital preservation and broader access.
Thank you to the Texas Archeological Society, the presenters, and everyone who took the time to visit and chat during the conference. It was a great event.
